Beautiful video! Well said. It took a while, but I have to say it ended up actually being a relief when I finally lost the last of my hearing. I felt pressured to keep that last bit and stop failing hearing tests. Now I can relax and learn sign language. If I go to a rock concert with my cochlears, I can stand right next to the speakers, feel the bass, and dance!

I'm halfway through my first year of college, doing sign language. It's so awesome to have language! I loved watching you sign about your experiences. I started going deaf 10 years ago and am now profoundly deaf. I have Cochlear's, but it is not enough. Everyone who goes deaf needs sign language, especially young children.

Last week in my ASL class, my Deaf teacher sick, the hearing teacher who runs all the other classes substitutes, but she ended up talking most of the time, and the room has a deeeeep echo, and, and I ended up repeating, "sorry, I'm deaf", then, after class, the teacher severely berates me for "acting like a teacher", I'm helpful, supportive, share resources I've found on my own, give advise from my experience, that's my nature, and if I think about it, those are the qualities of a damn good teacher, and I won't back down, I'll stand my ground~ I think the song I will sign for class is "A British Tar", perfect fit.

When I was little my dad often boasted about reading lips, I never thought about it. Now, sometimes at work I can pick up a little bit in high context, either of two expected words, but a third option comes up and completely baffles me.

When I first started learning ASL, I tried this, and they knew fingerspelling better than my receptive, and nothing else, they printed a page with letters and handshapes, it quickly degenerated into a game of Ouija, it went on for about an hour, but the excitement when they guessed what I was thinking, priceless~

Often at work I just repeat what I thought they said, and it's completely different, words mash together, train long, derail, pick up pieces. They make an effort to be understood, accommodate.

One day, Ha!, three years up-to-now, 28 month ASL learn, before, oblivious, completely, now, movie Avatar, bird combine-hair, eyes grow. ASL class now, have Deaf coworkers, life changing, head-explode, That~

This is great. Thank you. So many of us deaf feel too “little d” to bother like you say who are we going to use ASL with. Akin to hearing aid stigma. All the annoying stigma. Thanks for inspiring me.

I am sympathetic to this person but theatres need to invest in better listening devices for the hearing impaired or supply more devices. I am not willing to completely give up the traditional movie going experience, the escapism, the immersion of enjoying a good film for, I'm sorry, a minority of people! The activists who push for this are not just unwilling to understand why true movie fans hate this but want to frankly ruin one of the best and relatively inexpensive activities people can participate in life! I'm sorry if people think Im a selfish, insensitive bastard but I love going to the movies and this is horrible! Also, especially since the pandemic this is a surefire way to kill movie theatres.

I’m leaving ASL!! I’m severe to profound in one ear and moderate to severe in the other ear. I have hearing aids now which are wonderful but I’m still struggling with a lot of noise or certain words, tones. It’s frustrating as u know. So I’m feeling like this would definitely help me out!!! ❤❤cute 🐈‍⬛ Question, How can you help with severe tinnitus at night?

years ago, i had a therapist who is deaf and she taught me a lot. She wanted me to lift my face so it is eye level and she can read my lips. I was having emotional issues that made me turn away a lot and made it hard to speak clearly or speak at all so we would write on paper. It worked well for both of us. Now im facing hearing loss myself and i have so much new appreciation for her.

I have ADHD pretty bad, and captions used to be something I hated bc I thought they distracted me from the movie, but now I turn them on for pretty much everything! It helps me remember the dialogue so much better when I can read and listen to it at the same time, plus it makes me less prone to getting distracted bc my brain is having to multi-task. It also has the benefit of helping you to understand what's being said in a noisy environment! The only times I don't use them is when a family member gets really annoyed by them, if they aren't synced properly (which is more distracting), or if they block too much of the screen (I will die on my hill of begging for all captions to be adjustable). Captions are NOT just for deaf/HoH people!

Thank you for this video. I was just curious looking this up. I live in Sweden. Since 2014 all movies have to have subtitles even movies in our language and especially for children movies. The only problem is that the SUB follows the original language and not the dub which can be confusing but oh well. So no stupid devices that need batteries, mulfunction or make houndreds of small problems and I am sure sadly the staff dose´t get taught how they work and just on that day the one girl who knows how it works is on vaccation so. Just have subtitles on the screen. I may not like the "dramatic music" only have the speak sub. Sure I wish you could chosse when you order a ticket to fill in. "Do you requier captions?" But then we will have people troll others or in the theatre people wishing it won´t have captions and when they see it make a big deal out of it an yell. "WHO THE F WANTED CAPTIONS!" So I have to say include subs, they are not that distracting, can say as someone growing up with sub for ALL movies, becuse they are in a diffrent language not becuse of having hearing problem.
